Frequently Asked Questions
-
When is the best time to start prenatal physiotherapy? It's never too early to start! Many women begin as soon as they know they're pregnant, while others start later in their pregnancy. Ideally, starting early helps prevent discomfort and prepares your body for the physical demands of childbirth. We’ll tailor your sessions to match your current stage of pregnancy.
-
What should I bring to my first appointment? Please bring any relevant medical records, list of current medications, as well as any questions or concerns you may have about your pregnancy or physical well-being. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily during your assessment and exercise.
-
Do you perform internal assessments during the session? The decision to include an internal examination in your pelvic floor physiotherapy assessment is based on your individual needs and comfort. The purpose and potential benefits of the internal exam will thoroughly be explained. I recognize that past experiences and individual comfort levels vary, and your preferences will be respected throughout the assessment. I am committed to creating a safe and supportive environment that prioritizes your well-being and autonomy.
-
What is a partner session, and what do we do in it?A partner session is designed to involve your partner in your prenatal care. One key focus during the session is teaching them how to properly perform the perineal stretches with you, to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and confident. We also cover strategies and practice techniques together so they can better support you emotionally and physically, especially in the early phases of recovery. Birth prep is a team effort and a prepared and supportive partner can make a world of a difference in your pregnancy and postpartum journey!
-
Is prenatal physiotherapy suitable if I have a high-risk pregnancy? If you have a high-risk pregnancy, prenatal physiotherapy can still be beneficial, but it’s essential to work closely with your healthcare provider. I can collaborate with your doctor or midwife to ensure that any treatment or exercises we recommend are safe and appropriate for your specific condition.
-
How much does a physiotherapy session cost? The initial physiotherapy evaluation is $150 for 75 minutes, which includes a comprehensive assessment of your movement, strength, and pelvic health, as well as the development of a personalized treatment plan. Follow-up sessions are $130 for 60 minutes, focusing on ongoing rehabilitation, exercise progressions, and treatment adjustments to help you reach your goals.
-
Is this service covered by insurance? In Quebec, physiotherapy services in a private clinic are not covered by the RAMQ. However, most private insurance plans cover the costs of physiotherapy visits. The amount covered may vary depending on your plan. Some insurance companies may require a doctor’s referral to cover the physiotherapy services, so you should check with your provider to determine the coverage you have and associated conditions.
